- Ralph V. Pugliese (former MPCA President, 1981-1992)
Passed away on July 19, 2020 at the age of 95. Ralph Pugliese was a former President of the MPCA (then known as Marine Park Civic Association) from June 1981 to June 1992. He loved the community and neighborhood, where he lived from 1963 to 2003. We remember several of the programs and initiatives he worked on with other members of the community and local politicians to improve the quality of life of the residents. These include, a program he worked on with Community Board 18 to resolve the graffiti that had become prevalent at that time, the improvement project to revitalize Marine Park, when the fields were redone, and the bocce court was added, and in initiating the relocation of the sanitation trucks which were being double parked on Avenue S., which was also a safety concern. Ralph was a teacher at P.S. 207, the school he retired from after a thirty- three year teaching career. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (fourth degree), the Lion’s Club, and the Catholic Teachers Association. He was a former parishioner, usher, and member of the parish council at St. Columba. He was born in Brooklyn in 1925, raised in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section, graduated from Boy’s High School, and St. John’s University, which was located in Brooklyn at the time. He always loved his Marine Park neighborhood, and the many friends, neighbors, and students he knew there.

Former City Councilman
1956 - 2019
It is with heartfelt sadness that we have learned of the passing of our former City Councilman Lew Fidler. Lew was more than a City Councilman – he was a neighbor who cared about his community and all those who needed his assistance. He was passionate about many problems in our City, as we can attest to when he attended our Marine Park Community Association monthly meetings. Through the years he was an advocate for our community and supported many projects in Marine Park and the Hendrick I. Lott House. His presence will be greatly missed.
Our sympathy goes out to his wife Robin, their two sons, family and friends. May the love that surrounds you be a source of comfort during this difficult time.
The Funeral for Lew Fidler will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, May 7th, 2019 at 11:00am, at IJ Morris Funeral Home, located at 1700 Coney Island Avenue. (Between Avenue M and Avenue N).
Shiva details will be shared as they become available.

Steven Pollard, 1988-2019
The Marine Park Community Association wishes to extend their sincere condolences to the family of New York City firefighter Steven Pollard, a resident of our Marine Park Community. In an attempt to help victims of a car accident he lost his life trying to assist others, a reminder of the risks our first responders face every day. Our condolences also to the Fire Department family and members of Ladder Co. 170 on the tragic loss of their fellow firefighter. We join the city in mourning the loss of such a young person performing his job with a bright future ahead of him. May he rest in peace.

33rd Annual Halloween/Fall Festival
October 20, 2018
The Marine Park Community Association would like to thank Geoffrey Martin, Park & Recreation Manager and his Parks staff for their assistance in preparing the Fall Festival event site for our 33rd Annual Fall Festival. Upon our request, his staff mowed the lawn area; set up additional garbage pails and installed snow fencing for the pumpkin patch and cemetery area as well as revising both areas when it was decided the areas would be too small to accommodate 2,500 lbs.of pumpkins.
There were many smiling faces as the children picked out their pumpkins; took pictures in the pumpkin patch and then decorated them; ate their free popcorn while watching the Puppet show and participated in many craft activities. Attendance at this event was estimated to be approximately 3,000.
We could not continue this annual event without the support of the Parks Department and our local elected politicians. Thank you to Sen. Marty Golden for his partnership with the MPCA as well as NYC Councilman Alan Maisel who has provided the opportunity for the MPCA to apply for grants to help fund events like this for the community. Additional thanks to the 30 student volunteers from James Madison H.S. and community volunteers; Partnership for Parks for their Puppet Show; the Fire Department; the Police Department and Auxiliary; the Kids Mobile (Library); N.Y. Road Runners and Aviator Sports.
